Description

La Rioja is a diverse wine region, with both small bodegas as well as big wine houses. The Federico Paternina Reserva 2014 is the latter, it has been around since 1896 and is now part of the Marqués de la Concordia group. This Red band is a Reserva which means that the wine matured for at least one year in oak, as well as 2 years in the bottle before it was released. The Federico Paterna Reserva is a wine blend from Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Garnacha.

Tasting Notes

This Rioja has a lovely nose with vanilla, blackberries and even a hint of smoke. Also get some raspberries, milk chocolate, cherry and prunes. The oak influence from the maturation in this release, even though the wine is still fresh. Cranberries, plums and almonds complete the palate which even has some pepper from the wood spices. It’s lovely balanced and complex.
