The Glenesk 1981 26 Year Old, bottled by Duncan Taylor, is a rare and exquisite single malt from the now-closed Glenesk distillery (formerly known as Hillside). Distilled in 1981 and aged for 26 years, this whisky was carefully selected and bottled as part of Duncan Taylor’s Rare Auld series, which is renowned for showcasing exceptional, long-aged single cask whiskies. Bottled at natural cask strength, non-chill filtered, and with no added color, this release captures the pure essence of Glenesk’s old-school Highland style.

Tasting Notes

NOSE:
Elegant and refined, with notes of honeyed malt, soft vanilla, and orchard fruits (green apples, pears, and apricots). Subtle hints of dried herbs, oak spice, and a touch of white pepper add complexity, while a delicate waxiness evokes a vintage charm.

TASTE:
Rich and layered, offering flavors of buttered toffee, caramelized nuts, and golden barley. The long maturation in oak brings forward hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, and toasted oak, with an underlying citrus zest freshness balancing the sweetness. A touch of gentle smoke and earthy spice lingers in the background.
