Description

Domaine Tawse. One of Pascal’s favourite Premier Crus in the portfolio, he notes that their plot is the only one which is a genuine walled Clos and was probably the original Clos of King Louis IX. There is a clear difference in quality between the top and bottom of Clos du Roi, and this wine shows what can be achieved at the top. Combining a terrific purity of berry fruit with floral notes and mineral scents, there is a smoky note which Pascal assures is the Beaune terroir and not wood influence. The most impressive aspect here is the texture on the palate, which has a precision and an energy that shows what is possible from this historic terroir. Still primal, this deserves time in the cellar to unfurl.
