The Sazerac 18-Year-Old Rye Whiskey, part of the esteemed Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, is a highly sought-after expression renowned for its exceptional quality and depth. The Fall 2012 release holds particular significance, as it originates from a legendary batch distilled in the mid-1980s.

In the early 1980s, the George T. Stagg Distillery (now Buffalo Trace) produced a rye whiskey intended for the Cream of Kentucky brand. This whiskey was distilled between 1984 and 1985 and aged in Warehouse K. Plans for the brand changed, and the barrels were left to mature longer than initially intended. Recognizing the exceptional quality developing over time, the distillery decided to release this well-aged rye as part of their Antique Collection, starting in 2000. To preserve its unique profile, the remaining barrels were vatted into stainless steel tanks in 2003, halting further aging. The 2012 release is drawn from this vatted stock, offering a snapshot of this remarkable whiskey's character.
