Tasting Notes
COLOR:
Deep amber with golden highlights, suggesting a rich and full-bodied whiskey.
NOSE:
The nose is layered and complex, with an initial burst of ripe red berries, black cherries, and plums. These fruit notes are complemented by the sweetness of honey and vanilla, followed by a hint of marzipan. Further exploration reveals the influence of the Marsala wine casks, adding a distinct note of dried fruits and subtle spices, such as clove and cinnamon, balanced by toasted oak and a touch of leather.
TASTE:
On the palate, Red Spot 15 Year Old is exceptionally smooth and full-bodied. The rich fruitiness continues with flavors of raspberry jam, stewed apples, and dried figs. These are interwoven with creamy toffee, dark chocolate, and a hint of gingerbread. The spiciness from the pot still is well integrated, providing a peppery kick that is softened by the luscious, almost syrupy sweetness of the Marsala influence. Notes of oak, nutmeg, and a faint smokiness add layers of complexity.
FINISH:
The finish is long and elegant, with a harmonious blend of sweet and spicy. The lingering notes of fruitcake, spiced oak, and dark chocolate gradually fade, leaving a warm and satisfying aftertaste. The complexity of the cask maturation ensures a memorable and enduring finish that invites you back for another sip.
