Description

David Swift Phinney founded Orin Swift Cellars in 1998; Orin is his father’s middle name and Swift is his mother’s maiden name. With two tons of zinfandel and not much else, he spent the next decade making wine for others as well as himself and grew the brand to what it is today. His wines are all very unique expressions in the art of winemaking with artistic labels that complete the package. Located in St. Helena in heart of Napa Valley he sources grapes from outstanding growers throughout the Valley and beyond.

Tasting Notes

The Wine Advocate scored this 91+ points saying "Composed of Petite Sirah, Syrah and Grenache, aged for 12 months in oak (38% new), the 2017 Proprietary Red Machete sports a deep garnet-purple color. It has a fragrant nose of black cherry compote, blueberry pie and dried mulberries with hints of candied violets, dark chocolate and roses. Full-bodied, rich and seductive, the palate delivers tons of opulent fruit and a plush texture, finishing long and perfumed.

Rich meats, roasted, braised or stewed delicacies as the high tannins in the wine work well with rich and fatty elements in the dish.
