Purchased in the 1930s by Rafael Barril, the historic 312-acre estate Mas d’en Gil, in the isolated inland region of Priorat, is one of the original producers of the wine which bears the region’s name. For the past 30 years, under the heading of the Rovira family, the tradition begun by Barril is being carried on. As it is such that the ideal grapes for wine are those that have been made to struggle, it is the difficult soil of this region that has made Priorat renowned for the quality and character of the wine it produces.

Tasting Notes

A lush, fruit-forward Priorat from an isolated area inland from Tarragona in northeast Spain. The Mas d'en Gil estate is family-owned and all about the preservation of old vines and local character in Priorat. Think of Coma Vella as their "premier cru" red Priorat which comes from the local slate called LLicorella Piguellada.
