The 2016 release Laphroaig 30 Year Old is a limited edition malt that’s as complex as a 1985 personal computer. Three decades in bourbon barrels have given this Islay malt a profile that warrants repeat tastings.
| TASTING NOTES | NOSE: At first extremely reserved, after just a few moments, a fruit basket appears in the glass filled with peaches, apricots, plums and red apples. Very subtle smoke, which you could easily think of as an "aroma" of old wooden floorboards. Honey and brown sugar, old leather, dry tobacco leaves. A short trip to the spice rack gives you a mixture of nutmeg, ginger powder and grated cloves. A nose that rests in itself and has a lot to tell. TASTE: Creamy and full of anticipation, which feels soft and velvety on the tongue despite an alcohol strength of 53.5%. Dry wood, very mild smoke, in which the peat used can hardly be made out. Orange jam, almonds, hazelnuts, dark chocolate. While the nose was dominated by fresh fruits, the dried counterparts dominated the aroma. Leather and tobacco, dry deciduous forest floor, wood, which ensures a pleasant dryness. Dark chocolate, freshly roasted espresso. FINISH: Long and just imperceptibly drier. The fruity aromas fade over time, leather, dry wood and dark chocolate take the lead. It stays there for a long, long time. If you think: it's over now, he'll do another round. |
