Description

Barbaresco is an Italian wine region in the Northeast portion of Italy between Turin and Genoa. This wine is produced from Nebbiolo grapes. They are aged for a minimum of 2 years — at least 1 of which is in oak.
The name Gaja needs no introduction to lovers of Italian wine. Founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja the estate is today run by his great-grandson, Angelo Gaja with his daughters Gaia and Rossana playing a major role in the business.

Tasting Notes

This Nebbiolo is garnet in colour; the nose is almost sensual in its complexity, with aromas of forest fruits, plums, licorice, mineral and coffee scents. Long, complex finish with fine, silk-like tannins and good acidity; dense structure, full of super-ripe fruit.

Food Pairing

Braised meats, risotto’s with earthy tones such as porcini mushrooms and some of the more powerful cheeses such as blue cheese are all great options. In my opinion the perfect pairing is grilled meat and Barbaresco, a great choice for a summer wine and food pairing option.
