Castilla is a Spanish geographical indication for Vino de la Tierra wines located in the eponymous region south of Madrid. This classification is one step below the mainstream Denominación de Origen indication on the Spanish wine quality ladder. The area covered by this specific Viño de la Tierra is wide and embraces a big portion of central Spain with a multiple diversity of soils and landscapes. The quality of wines therefore depends on the quality of the winemakers both in selecting the very best fruit and using the best vinification techniques.

Part of the large Grupo Jorge Ordóñez, Dominio de Eguren manages and controls multiple vineyards in Manchuela Spain. The Eguren family sets themselves apart compared to other Vino de la Tierra wines by selecting vineyards with advanced age and low yields, and performing a rigorous selection of the grapes.

This wine is made from 100% Tempranillo grapes selected from vineyards managed by Dominio de Eguren where the vines are between 30-70 years old. Cold maceration was followed by a six-day fermentation and then by an eight-day post fermentative maceration. The wine was then settled for six months in stainless steel and cement deposits before being aged for six months in French and American Bordelaise oak barrels.
