The hill of Corton is situated on the boundary between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. This area was classified as part of the Côte de Beaune to ensure there was at least one red grand cru. The Corton-Charlemagne appellation also produces whites, which are very different from the grand crus of Chassagne or Puligny. Faiveley's Corton-Charlemagne is a thoroughbred Chardonnay.
