Description

Hito is a young red wine made by the Moro family in Bodegas Cepa 21 in the DO Ribera del Duero.

The word "hito" means milestone, a stone post (sometimes carved) that is used to indicate direction or distance on roads. In a way, the name is a simile with what this wine stands for: a new, modern way of making young wines. Hito is a Tinto Fino single-varietal from vines planted with clone seeds of the Bodegas Emilio Moro's most emblematic vineyards.

The grapes macerate for 18 days and are subject to pump-overs. The wine then ages for eight months in French oak barrels, giving the wine a subtle elegance and making it stand out from other young wines in the region, approaching the maturity of aged wines.

Tasting Notes

Dark ruby red color. Complex aromas of strawberry, raspberry, oak, vanilla, and tobacco. On the palate, more ripe red fruit, blackberry, smoke, and oak. Silky smooth and a nice balance in the mouth with a very long dry finish.
